HIYA!
SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE

Hi, I'm Des! I am a Northern California native and I've called the West Coast home for most of my life.

I've always lived in an urban or suburban environment, so the busy hustle and bustle of everyday life is my normal. I am a working mom and wife from the Northern California suburbs, sharing my own preparedness journey virtually across different platforms.

I didn't grow up with the preparedness mindset -- this was something I slowly started to embrace in adulthood. My husband and I had moved out of the Bay Area in 2015 and settled in the suburbs. During 2017, we had experienced a two-week long storm that the media had lovingly called an atmospheric river. It strained our levee system and when the flooding started, we quickly realized we had NOTHING prepared. If we suddenly had to evacuate, we had no plan, no where to go, no supplies ready -- nothing but the urge to get to safety.

Thankfully our neighborhood was not at risk, but so many of our surrounding neighbors were not as fortunate. This was epiphany, the close-call that helped me realize how ill-equipped we were. My preparedness journey started with researching countless blogs and youtube videos to build bug-out bags for every family member. Since then, I've looked for new ways to become more prepared, and self-sufficient.

I want to help change the narrative of urban homesteading and prepping — while helping others learn how to plan, prep, survive and protect what matters. Everyone can make small steps to become more prepared and self-reliant. Yes, even in an urban setting! I want to encourage and empower you layer preparedness into your everyday life. I want to show you that you can prep in the season that you're in. I want you to be Prepared Not Scared.

Thank you for joining me here!
